This is a traditional pesto recipe inspired by Michelle Hauser, MD. It is made using fresh basil leaves, garlic, pine nuts, Parmesan cheese, and olive oil. Additionally, we've added a small amount of parsley to help prevent the browning of the basil. The parsley does not impart any noticeable flavor. The fresh basil provides a bright, herbal flavor, while the garlic adds a pungent kick. Pine nuts contribute a rich, buttery texture, and the Parmesan brings savory depth with its salty, nutty taste. Extra virgin olive oil ties all the ingredients together, creating a smooth and creamy consistency. The result is a vibrant, aromatic sauce that's both fresh and rich, perfect for tossing with pasta, spreading on bread, or using as a dressing for vegetables.
